Manic Monday

I hate Mondays.  I mean I REALLY hate Mondays….especially mornings.  Today was no different.  There was not enough makeup in the world to cover the bags under my eyes as my body pleaded for another 3 hours of sleep.  After I beated everything into submission, I ventured out to find that we had our first snow fall of the season.  Whoopie.   That started the points at: Me 1 (for getting up) / Universe 2 (Monday morning + snow.)
I finally wrangled everything together, got kidlet and took the new car for it’s first spin on snow.  No one died.  No one even came close.  That’s:  Me 2 / Universe 2.
I got to work to recieve the wonderful *insert sarcasm here* news that I would be putting faux Christmas Trees together all day.  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 3.  It got a bit old a quarter of the way into the first one.  I had 4 to complete.  Did I mention they were all 10′ tall?  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 8.
I decided to attempt to lighten my mood while I was stuck in “solitary” for the day.  I looked outside to see it not only it “flurry-ing” out like the weatherman predicted, but rather “blizzard-ing” out, so I started singing Christmas songs.  My co-workers threw things at me.  (We’re a dysfunctional family really.)  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 9.–This is not going well.
Finally, my boss assigned me to take pics of the staff to update the website.  Doing so was like nailing Jello to a wall.  The ladies are NOT fans of getting their pictures taken and I swear they literally vanished at the sight of the camera.  I finally pinned them down one-by-one, posed them, put pleasant-but artifical smiles on them and completed my mission.  That’s Me 3 / Universe 9.
In the midst of taking pics, there a few not-so-good ones as usual.  One of my co-workers and I are practically best friends so as she begged me to erase the bad ones, I kept the worst one telling her that I’m keeping it in case she ever goes missing to submit it to the media.  She’s chewing gum in it, her mouth half open and as my other co-worker put it “It looks like she belongs in a home.”  LOL  That’s Me 4 / Universe 9.  I also teased her that I was going to submit the horrid pic to the local TV Station for their Birthday announcements on a day that isn’t her Birthday and happily wish her a “Happy 63rd Birthday!”  (She’s in her 40’s.)  Yes, I’m mean….but with a day like today, I needed all the laughs I could get.
That’s Me 5 / Universe 9 – and on a Snowy Monday, I’ll take it.  I’m just glad it’s over.

Skipping Stones

Wow.  Today has been a great day.  Hubby essentially gave me the day off by taking care of kidlet today.  I got pictures dumped off the camera onto the computer and a couple edited.  I finished curing my jewelry pendants and although they didn’t come out like I had hoped, it was a test run, and a good one.  I got 3 canvases prepped and one collage done.  I haven’t gotten a chance to work on this many of “my” projects in at least over a year.  I’m feeling really well.  I’ll have pics here tomorrow, as my camera’s SD Card and my computer are not liking each other at the moment.
Speaking of tomorrow, as we were sitting down to supper tonight, the phone rings.  I thought, “So help me God, if this is another Call from the Republicans….” I look at our caller ID which read my work number.  I answer to hear my boss telling me that I don’t need to come in tomorrow because essentially she can’t afford to have me there tomorrow, but she will pay me for 3 hours of work I can do from home for the business website, and she finished the conversation letting me know that I would see her on Monday as usual.  Wow.  I’ve been working there 6 years, and this has never happened nor have I ever heard of it happening before.  I wonder if I need to start looking for a web-based side job…anyone hiring?
So, I guess this leaves me with time tomorrow.  I guess I’ll clean the house after I drop kidlet off at daycare and I’ll do yard work in the afternoon.  Or maybe I’ll just drink all day.  (Kidding!)
I’ve wrapped up Chpt. 4 of my Floral Design Course.  I’m at a 96% and am waiting for my next shipment to come in which will give me what I need for Chpts. 5-9.  For as many “irons in the fire” as I have right now, I feel more productive than ever.
In the meantime, it’s time for me to nod off….

Summertime Hallelujah

Sorry I’ve been so quiet on-line for the past few days…as odd as it is to say, I guess I’ve been getting down to the business of living.  I’ve been savoring morning cartoons with kidlet, enjoying the 1/2 hour with her spent coloring at the kitchen table, I’ve been loving watching her walk around the backyard and throw the ball for Rowdy.  I’ve also been enjoying the evening post-kidlet just watching TV next to Hubby while holding hands.  I’ve taken “old” roses home from work and have made a point to enjoy them everyday….hence the 50 or so pictures of them.
It’s been a rough few weeks here.  Swept up by work, and emotions, and confusion.  But as the dust settles, my world here is clearer, my marriage stronger, and my zest for life refreshed.
I know I’ve said it before, but I feel I’m enjoying this summer more than others.  I think it’s because I’m taking time and making a point to do so.  I know in at least the last 5 summers I would be driving to work, noticing the leaves changing on a tree branch and wondering where the summer went.  This year has been delightfully different.  I’ve realized that summer is wrapped up in sundresses, festivals, days spent with best friends, corn on the cob, watermelon, bbq’s and lemonade.  It’s in pictures of sunsets, incoming storms, friends and your kid in a pool or at the park.  As in any season, it’s about the moment.  Enjoying the moment and capturing that moment.  But for that to happen, an effort has to be made and as simple as a concept as that is, I think this is the first summer in a long time, that I “get” that.  Hallelujah.
