Summer Breezes

I know it’s been forever since I’ve written, but everyday I’m striving to meet so many deadlines that fall in November.   But, here are the updates in my life:

Knitting:  I’M FINISHED WITH SWEATERS AND HATS (Ornaments)!!!  I’ve started the Mitten Ornaments and just have Scarves left after that.  In English; I have 46 Ornaments left to knit before November.

Miniature Hat Ornaments

As for the children’s hats, I still have 6 of those left to knit before November as well.  No pressure…. He he. 🙂   I still can’t believe that this business (Kate’s Grace) that kind of created itself is doing so well with no pre-exisiting inventory.  I’m so blessed.

Orchids:  They are doing amazing despite my lack of attention to them lately.  Pics to prove:

Family:
We’ve had a very busy summer.  Because of my husband’s job we don’t get to take the tradition summer vacations, but I’ve made quite an effort to go and do something as a family every weekend just around our area.  In doing that we’ve attended a Hot Air Balloon Rally, we went to the zoo, we went Jet Skiing, we went Camping with friends, and have attended various festivals.  So, our summer has felt full and I’m happy for that.  Kidlet has loved everything that we’ve done.

Well, I guess that’s all from here for now.  I’m off to do some business e-mails and place some orders…and so it goes 🙂

“Kate’s Grace”…That implies I have Grace LOL!

I apologize greatly about the unexpected hiatus I ended up taking from my blog.  Nothing devastating or tragic has happened to cause it, but I have found that in the phases of parenting, the months of  “I can get away with multi-tasking” all too quickly turned into “What are you doing?” “What are you into?”  “Get that out of your mouth!” and even a lingering stare in the direction of my laptop during kidlet’s waking hours leads to her asking “Up?” (meaning sitting on my lap) and that’s completely unproductive.
Thus the days of RL have completely taken over, and honestly by the time I get some time at night to think about getting on-line, I’m too tired.  Yes, that is an admission that I’m getting old.  Don’t tell anyone. Thank God Blackberry has entered my life!  At least that way I can still keep on-top of e-mails and try to keep up with Twitter, so I’m not completely gone.

What has happened since I’ve been gone?  Well let’s see….I completed the local “Biggest Loser” program at the YMCA and to date have lost (and kept off) 24 lbs.  I’m still working on more, but getting the gym seems harder.  Lol.
My husband and I also looked into buying an existing Coffee Shop in our downtown, but it took us 2 weeks of homework to discover the owner lied to us and only made $7,000 last year being open 6 days a week year-round.  Yeah, no thanks.  Luckily we found out all of that before ever spending a dime.
In the meantime, my knitting has exploded.  I knitted a hat for kidlet in Feb. and when the girls at the shop saw it, they put in a combined order for 10 of them.  Not only that, but I also have a wholesale order through the floral shop I work at for 200 hand knit ornaments by Oct.  Thus, this has all turned into a small business I’ve named “Kate’s Grace.”  I”ve gotten clothing labels, hang tags and business cards to tie it all together.  I’ve also gotten as far as establishing a business e-mail but no on-line shop (yet).  I have to fill these orders before I can knit inventory for the on-line market.  My biggest fear is that I won’t complete the wholesale order in time, even though I know I will.  There’s a lot to do!

These are the last 3 hats I knit for my order of 10. Only 4 more to go!

So, the nights after kidlet goes to bed, going on-line also takes 2nd place to the knitting needles.  I already have a feeling that when these orders are done, I’m going off the deep end creatively knitting to change things up.  This should be considered a warning to my friends and family come Christmas.  If I knit you something, just smile and nod no matter what it is.  Deal?
On the Orchid front: They are doing WONDERFULLY!  I have a mini Catt in bloom, another in bud and 2 full size Catts in sheath.  I’ll make sure to post pics as soon as they bloom!
And kidlet:  Oh, kidlet…she’s doing amazing!  She’s starting with full sentences, she calls our bluffs, and relevantly chimes in on conversations between hubby and I in the car.  We took to the zoo last weekend and out of all the exotic animals she saw, the big, black ugly pig was her favorite.  That’s our girl!  Here are some pics:

So, I guess that wraps up life here at the moment.  Both Hubby’s and my jobs are crazy right now, but that’s the same story every year.  Spring means prepping camp to open and Gardening Season at the shop.  Hopefully, we’ll be back to normal soon.  Wait….us normal?  Nevermind!

Say What Now?

What a good day.  Granted it started a bit rocky with a conversation with my co-worker/friend about how defeated I felt yesterday, feeling that I lost on both the kidlet and housekeeping fronts.  She chimed in with “Welcome to Motherhood.  There are A LOT of days like that.”
I replied, “I was kinda hoping for a comment that might make me consider taking the Suicide Hotline off my Speed Dial.”
“I don’t have time to sugar coat things, Hunny.”  –Gee, Thanks!
My day got better despite decorating fresh evergreen wreaths all day for the cemetery.  I like to think that my making of wreaths for the dead, adds to my karma points.  A girl can hope….
The nearly impossible happened today.  Working in the floral shop for 6 years now I’ve seen almost everything.  But today was a whole new ball of wax.–First, we got a call from a family member of a deceased person telling us that they only wanted 5 flowers at the funeral and that if anyone else called wanting to send flowers, we were to tell them the family prefers money.  Ummmm…no.  I don’t really think that’s in our job description as a floral shop, so that’s not gonna happen.
Second, a 17 yr old guy came in with his mom this afternoon, wanting to get flowers for his girlfriend.  It wasn’t anything new until they asked if we had artificial roses.  I showed them what we had and he chose one artificial red rose and ordered 11 fresh red roses all to vased together (equaling a dozen.)  The kicker?  The card (which he came up with on his own) read, “I’ll love you until the last rose dies.”  Wow.  Even after all I’ve seen, I still remain hugely impressed.  I told him that at least he can write for Hallmark if everything else falls through for him.
Finally, a writer came in the shop today, and while wrapping her purchases I told her that I’ve always wanted to write a Children’s Book, but have no idea how to go about publishers and all that stuff.  She was kind enough to give me a name of a book that should have all the info I need, which saved me about a week of research.  I’m so happy answers pop up when you need them.
Who was the writer by the way?  Victoria Huston.  She’s written a host of mysteries using the Northwoods of WI as her backdrop and people in small towns as her characters–indirectly of course.   A list of the books she’s written is here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Victoria+Houston
Oh!  And I almost forgot!  I have a new member of my Cattleya family:

What can I say?  I saw it at work, it has 7 fricken buds and the price was right. –Stop looking at me like that…..
Well, I’m off to continue watching the Packer Game and update my Amazon Wish List before Hubby gets me anything for Christmas. 🙂

*Warning: this Post includes some personal medical issues, explained in non-medical terms.  It is written out of truth for the purpose of entertainment.  You’ve been warned. :)*

Wow, what a few days it’s been.  Thursday my body confirmed that I had a UTI.  (Urinary Tract Infection)  Whoopie!  Hubby was kind enough to get me some Azo to treat the symptoms and the plan is that I would wait it out a bit before deciding to go to the Dr.
Thursday night came and all of the sudden I had internal lower back pains.  Crap.  This can’t be good.  So, into the walk-in clinic I went, fearing my kidneys were failing, I’d end up on dialysis and die after I accidentally missed a couple of appointments.  (Obviously you seem my optimism here.)
To speak quite frankly, at this point my urine was also a different shade of normal upon going in, also heightening the dialysis outcome in my mind.
I got in to walk-in, symptoms explained and they asked for a urine sample…that I saw coming.  What I didn’t see coming, was the  Orange Easter-Egg dye colored sample I ended up giving them.  Great.  I was sure I was dying.  I had a “Scrubs” moment  (Where one’s imagination takes over into a ridiculous day-dream) where everyone was at my wake, various people asking how I died and others shaking their head sullenly saying, “Orange pee.”
I nervously got into the Dr.’s room and waited for the nurse.  She asked if I was taking anything and I explained that I had taken one dose of Azo that afternoon.
“Oh,” she said, “That would explain your sample.  Azo turns your urine orange.”
“What?,” I thought “I’m not dying?  No dialysis?  No appointments I might perish from if I forget them?  YAY!……Wait, why isn’t this on Azo’s packaging in bold letters: “THIS PRODUCT TURNS YOUR PEE ORANGE AND, NO, YOU’RE NOT DYING.”–I’ll have to write the company.”
Two Life Lessons got added to my list that day.  Life Lesson #139:  Azo turns your Urine Orange. & Life Lesson #140:  It’s best not to first learn of Lesson #139 in a Hospital Bathroom.
In other news, I have another Orchid in Bloom!

My Mini Cattleya in Bloom 🙂

I also got a chance to devote about 3 hours to myself yesterday.  (THANK YOU, HUBBY!) and I worked on these:

More Paper Beads I Made in Earth Tones

More Paper Beads I Made in Earth Tones

I need to find a way to coat them in sealer and dry them, but then they’ll be ready to go and I can finally attempt to replace the necklace I adore so much!  Yay!
And finally, I would like to devote this part in “An Ode to Netflix.”  Hubby and I don’t get to the theater.  Between finding a sitter, and more difficult-finding a movie that we want to pay theater prices for, it just doesn’t happen.  We started getting Netflix a couple of months ago, and it’s WONDERFUL!  I can once again feel “in the loop” of the current Pop Culture.  And even more than that, this morning CBS Sunday gave a run-down of up-coming fall movies coming out.  This means, I popped over to the computer and was able to enter the titles I think look good to my Netflix Queue.  We’ll get the movies popped into our line-up as soon as the DVD’s come out!  YAY!  That alone makes Netflix priceless to me!  THANK YOU NETFLIX!
Oh, and if you want to check-out upcoming Fall Movies to perhaps do the same thing, here is where I found them this morning:

Have Fun!

Narcoleptic Living…..Zzzzz

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a few.  Not much going on, just daily life.  Kidlet is having a hard time sleeping at night, even with letting her cry it out.  Guess I will have to consider taking Kidlet to the Dr…in case it’s heartburn or something like that.  In the meantime, surviving on sleep deprivation is getting old.
I’m enjoying some time off of work as I write this.  Hubby and I both took Friday off of work, and we’ll enjoy the first day together (as in “just us”) in four months, as Kidlet will go to Day Care that day.  I’m pretty excited.  With having Friday off, and Monday being a Holiday, I don’t have to be back in the shop until next Friday.  Yay!
Tomorrow is a trip to Wausau.  Hubby has a meeting there, and he’ll drop me off at Barnes & Noble where I will meet my best friend and hang out for a bit.  After 12:00p.m. Hubby will pick me up and we’ll head to the car dealership and possibly trade in our ’05 Grand Am in an effort to get lower monthly payments.  We’ll see.  I’m not sure what we have going on Saturday, but pending good weather, our Hot Air Balloon Ride is Sunday!!!!!!!  I’m so exited!!  I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much, as the weather forecast calls for Sunday to be breezy, but a girl can still hope. 🙂
Anyway, I have some more pics of my gorgeous Orchid…as it’s ALL in Bloom now!  Enjoy!

Glorious Bloomin!

This post is to merely redeem myself for my geekiness both in photography and my Orchids.  Hopefully these pics help….

There will be more pics soon, as my 3 other buds are starting to open tonight, so “Group Photos” will be a must.  This was just the first one. 🙂

An Unexpected Great Day

Big News First:  MY ORCHID IS FINALLY BLOOMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (Pics to come in a minute…hold your horses)
Otherwise, this turned into an unexpected great day.  I guess it really started yesterday when one of my Hubby’s friends from camp brought us some outdoor toys for kidlet.  Little did I expect a freaking Jungle Gym!  It’s amazing!  They also brought books and a toy vanity, a lamp and a PFD for kidlet.  I’m speechless!
Today my parents came to visit, and they got to see my Orchid.  More importantly, with the help of these new toys, they got to play and interact with kidlet.  It was great and exactly what I’ve been needing. (As odd as that is to say.)  With their help kidlet mastered climbing and going down the slide today!  It was so great to see.

Grandpa with Kidlet 🙂

They also brought some of my old things (from when I was a kid) for kidlet to use now, which is neat.   My dad also brought me some jewelry that I thought was long gone.  I was supposed to have inherited a diamond ring from my Great, Great Aunt, but I’ve been unable to track it down.  I didn’t know that my Dad had it this whole time!  I’m so happy!

I also found a locket from my childhood that I’ve often wondered about.  That in itself were two very nice surprises.
Our Wii paid for itself today.  I showed it to my parents, and my dad had a ball with it!  It was an easy 2 hours of fun together!
With all of these things, I really think this was the best visit with my parents in a long time.  Yay!
Now, onto my Orchid.  Oh you think I would attach it to THIS post?  Oh hell no!  I’m been waiting for this for too long…it gets a post by itself. 🙂

Things That Make You Go….WOW

It’s been an interesting day already and it’s not even noon.  I’m convinced that Hell is close to Freezing Over as my Hubby admitted this morning that he’s excited to see my Orchid bloom.  You could have knocked me over with a feather.
In other news, I went down to switch laundry this morning and found Spaz (our cat) in the downstairs window in attack mode.  I glanced out expecting to see a chipmunk and found an injured Hawk in our rock bed.  My best guess is that he flew into the window.  I called Hubby and told him to come to the house ASAP.  After some discussion him and his staff grabbed one of our cat-carriers, put the Hawk in it and they are taking it to a Wild Bird Sanctuary in Woodruff.  The guys named the Hawk “Zipline” as it must have gotten a taste of how the scouts feel on the Zip Line when they don’t let go and hit the stopper while flying at top speed.  I thought it was a nice touch.
On a different note, although I don’t watch CBS News anymore (we watch NBC News at night), I still remain addicted to CBS’s website (http://www.cbsnews.com/) for news during the day.  It must be a slow news day, because I found this story titled “Condom, Condom” Ringtone:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/20/tech/cnettechnews/main4365977.shtml
Further investigation lead me here: http://www.condomcondom.org/ where you can listen and download this Condom Capella for your phone.  I’m finding it hilarious!  Way to go CBS!
Finally, I got a sales e-mail from www.alohaorchid.com, which is only the BEST place to buy Orchids in the WORLD!  They have great prices, tons of Cattleyas (which are the species I collect) and reasonable shipping.  Come to find out, they run amazing sales too.  Like THIS ONE: http://www.alohaorchid.com/detail.aspx?ID=654
In lieu of our Hot Air Balloon Ride next weekend, our budget is a bit tight at the moment, so I’m hoping their sales last into next month.  We shall See. *Crossing my fingers*
Well, I better continue this exciting day by making lunch.  Glamorous, aren’t I? 😉

One Ringy-Dingy….

Today was better at work.  Some people had the courtesy to kick the bucket over the weekend, so we had Funeral Work to do.  Don’t look at me like that!
I did walk away with a couple of new Pet Peeves, however.
First, if you have a Cell Phone, ditch the old-fashioned ring!!!  If you have the technology, USE the technology!  If you have your cell programmed for a ring from a Rotary Phone, you just aged yourself 25 years.
Second, I know it’s really not their fault, but I don’t appreciate getting yelled at by people that can’t hear.  Furthermore, I like having to yell at them back even less.  It’s embarrassing standing in a Floral Shop yelling into the phone while customers stare at me.  I’m not a fan.  Miracle Ear, could we do something about this please?
I got lucky and my Cattleya didn’t bloom while I was gone today.  I know it’s pathetic, but on a positive note, at least my life is calm enough at the moment to actually have an Orchid be a highlight of my life.  Again with a look from you?  Sheesh.
Last night was #3 of “Operation Tough Love.”  I woke up on top of the world this morning, remembering that I had just heard kidlet at 11:00p.m. and not a peep since.  I got up, shut her nursery door, got ready, went out to make breakfast and found Hubby sleeping at one end of the couch and kidlet sleeping at the other.  I was so mad!  Hopefully that doesn’t set us back tonight, but I’ll let you know.  All I know, is that won’t happen again until Operation Tough Love is over…that’s for sure.
On a different note, I also came up with a new life goal.  I want to create a scented candle line that based on objects that have no smell like, wind, rocks, paper….
Either that or my co-worker and I want to start a candle line like the Garbage Pail Kids of the 80’s.  We want to do, dog poo, full cat litter box, fart, rotting garbage…you get the picture.
I wonder which line would sell better?

Ring Around the Orchid

Today has been okay, meaning that this didn’t feel like much of a weekend because Hubby had to work all of it for Camp Shut-Down, but we did okay.
I did made a happy realization today.  If you know me, you know I LOVE necklaces and am usually ALWAYS wearing one.  Well, that hadn’t been the case for the past 17 months, because of kidlet loving to pull on them.  I gave it a try and put one on again today, and we’re good!  YAY!  –What can I say?  My life is made up of small victories.  So, bring on the necklaces!!!!  🙂
If you’re looking for an Orchid update….here goes:  It’s not that exciting yet….sorry.  I’m like an impatient 4 yr old at the moment, and am so anxious for them to bloom.  Is it time yet?          How about NOW???

In kidlet news, we’re on night #3 of Operation “Tough Love.”  Last night was successful in me not getting up, but unsuccessful in kidlet still crying and sleep being lost.  Hopefully tonight will be better, because I have to work tomorrow.  However if it’s as slow as it was Friday, maybe I can catch a nap in the back… j/k
Finally, I got to talk to my best friend from college tonight.  Ours to is a relationship that we can go forever without talking and just pick up exactly where we left off.  It’s really nice.  It’s a place where I always feel comfortable in my wacky ways because she understands… 🙂
That’s all for now…I’m off to bed. Tomorrow brings work and Day Care.
