Merry Halloween!!

Happy Halloween!  I ironically spent mine stringing Christmas lights on trees, putting together another tree, hanging ornaments, etc.  Tis’ the Season!
I got off work an hour early to pick up kidlet to go Trick-or-Treating.  She had gone once during daycare, but we still had to make the rounds to Grandma & Grandpa and Auntie.  So, I picked her up, took her home, got her dressed, gathered our things and left.  Went to Grandma & Grandpa’s, then went around the block to Auntie’s, then further around the block back to Grandma & Grandma’s.  There, we found that Grandpa had gone back into the woods, so we took Grandma out to eat.  Upon finishing dinner, we dropped Grandma off back at their house and did a major grocery shopping trip.  After getting home and unloaded, we got kidlet to sleep and I squeezed in a work-out and a shower.  I’m tired.
The Hot Air Balloon Company called my cell during work asking if we would like to try to go again as this weekend’s weather is looking really nice.  A few phone calls made and a few phone calls returned, it looks like we’ll be trying again tomorrow night.  Keep your finger’s crossed!  Grandma is kind enough to take kidlet over-night Saturday, so that should be nice.
Sunday we’ll be heading to my hometown to see kidet’s other Grandparents and attend the Halloween Parade.  My parents are planning on having lunch for us, which means an early kidlet pick-up and road-trip.  A busy weekend indeed!
I don’t really have anything witty or thought-provoking today.  Weariness has taken all of those thoughts hours ago.

Cabana Boys & Umbrella Drinks

I write tonight, tired.  It’s been a long, full and busy day full of picking up, laundry, dishes, vacuuming, a workout, outdoor work, kidlet’s Halloween costume test-drive, grocery list gathering for tomorrow, dog bathing, kidlet bathing and me bathing.
I realize on a day like this that my mind no longer dreams of far off trips, or luxury hotel stays–but rather visions of no alarm clocks or kidlet cries to wake a deep slumber, or emerging into the house finding it just as clean as the last time I did so, or the appliances gathering the appropriate soiled items by themselves, washing them and putting them away, or adult tv programming without interruptions of “uh-oh’s,” “Elmoooooo’s,” “Milk!,” or “Book!” …..okay, and maybe there’s a cabana boy in there too with an umbrella drink. –A girl can dream.
I know I’m incredibly blessed to have the life I do.  It’s just when so many hours of this life repeat each other in a string of days, it’s like Groundhog’s Day.  I know that in itself is a luxury many don’t have right now, so I count my blessings.
In the meantime, I still believe in housework fairies (although I have yet to see one) and I will continue looking for possible hiding cabana boys in my closets. –Cause I can still hope. 🙂

Secondhand Serenade – Vulnerable

I stumbled across this song after hearing “Fall For You” on XM Flight 26.  I hope this gets released!!!!!!

Me, Flawed?

“Be patient towards all that is unresolved in you and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms, like books that are written in a very foreign tongue.  Live the questions now.” –Rainer Maria Rilke

Today started as a very “off-day” for me.  Since last night I had been battling this feeling in the pit of my stomach that said something was wrong and it wouldn’t tell me what, let alone how to fix it.   As the feeling grew stronger, I got crankier.  It wasn’t pretty.
But, that’s what friends are for.  And through talking it out I realized it was my darkest flaw of constantly wanting change that was bugging me.  Also, through further discussion I also realized that I wasn’t alone in having this flaw, and as we all know, just simply knowing that you’re not alone, can make your darkest flaw a bit lighter.
Truth be known, I don’t have a lot of close friends, but those I do have more than make up for the lack of “quantity.”  Thank you.
Otherwise, things are quiet here for the moment, which in my world, is always good news.  I’m sure another story is sitting someplace just waiting to happen.   I’ll keep you posted.

A Song To Cheer Me Up

Gavin Rossdale “Love Remains the Same”

Manic Monday

I hate Mondays.  I mean I REALLY hate Mondays….especially mornings.  Today was no different.  There was not enough makeup in the world to cover the bags under my eyes as my body pleaded for another 3 hours of sleep.  After I beated everything into submission, I ventured out to find that we had our first snow fall of the season.  Whoopie.   That started the points at: Me 1 (for getting up) / Universe 2 (Monday morning + snow.)
I finally wrangled everything together, got kidlet and took the new car for it’s first spin on snow.  No one died.  No one even came close.  That’s:  Me 2 / Universe 2.
I got to work to recieve the wonderful *insert sarcasm here* news that I would be putting faux Christmas Trees together all day.  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 3.  It got a bit old a quarter of the way into the first one.  I had 4 to complete.  Did I mention they were all 10′ tall?  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 8.
I decided to attempt to lighten my mood while I was stuck in “solitary” for the day.  I looked outside to see it not only it “flurry-ing” out like the weatherman predicted, but rather “blizzard-ing” out, so I started singing Christmas songs.  My co-workers threw things at me.  (We’re a dysfunctional family really.)  That’s: Me 2 / Universe 9.–This is not going well.
Finally, my boss assigned me to take pics of the staff to update the website.  Doing so was like nailing Jello to a wall.  The ladies are NOT fans of getting their pictures taken and I swear they literally vanished at the sight of the camera.  I finally pinned them down one-by-one, posed them, put pleasant-but artifical smiles on them and completed my mission.  That’s Me 3 / Universe 9.
In the midst of taking pics, there a few not-so-good ones as usual.  One of my co-workers and I are practically best friends so as she begged me to erase the bad ones, I kept the worst one telling her that I’m keeping it in case she ever goes missing to submit it to the media.  She’s chewing gum in it, her mouth half open and as my other co-worker put it “It looks like she belongs in a home.”  LOL  That’s Me 4 / Universe 9.  I also teased her that I was going to submit the horrid pic to the local TV Station for their Birthday announcements on a day that isn’t her Birthday and happily wish her a “Happy 63rd Birthday!”  (She’s in her 40’s.)  Yes, I’m mean….but with a day like today, I needed all the laughs I could get.
That’s Me 5 / Universe 9 – and on a Snowy Monday, I’ll take it.  I’m just glad it’s over.

Fall Features and All Time Faves

I thought this morning in amongst this dreary day and the snow that’s expected, I would take a minute to review some of my Fall Faves.
First, the up-and-coming British singer, Adele.  I LOVE the sound of her voice, and seeing her this morning on CBS, I was impressed with her interview as she conveyed her confidence in not caring what people think of her singing and/or image.  Hands down, I’m a fan.

Adeles Album 19

Adele's Album "19"

Another fave is another up-and-coming artist, who is already big in Australia: Lenka.  At first listen of her song, “The Show” I was hooked.  That song actually made it to my cell as a Ring-tone, which in it’s own right, is a “Hall of Fame” of sorts:

Lenkas Debut Album Lenka

Lenka's Debut Album "Lenka"

Also, a new fave of mine is Leona Lewis.  Her voice too, is very unique and distinctive.  I was a fan of “Bleeding Love” when it came out, but I love “Better With Time” even more.  If there’s such thing as a #1 Break-Up song in the world, that would be it.  It doesn’t take a “victim role” and beautifully portrays how life goes on.  LOVE IT!

Leona Lewiss Album Spirit

Leona Lewis's Album "Spirit"

These three artists have a “Coffee House” kinda feel to them and although it may not be trendy, it’s still a sound I LOVE!  I’m hoping to get these 3 albums for the car, because as much as I love the XM in the car, they don’t have an all-Adele channel, an all-Lenka channel, or an all-Leona Lewis channel….yet.

Other artists & music that I’m a fan of are:
Gavin Rossdale “Love Remains the Same”
Augustana
Blind Melon
Blink 182
Colbie Caillat
ColdPlay
Collective Soul
Counting Crows
Dave Matthews Band
Duffy
Five For Fighting
Gin Blossoms
Goo Goo Dolls
Green Day
Gwen Stefani -“The Sweet Escape” which kidlet now sings to.  The “Oooh ooooohs”
Hinder
Hootie and the BlowFish
Jack Johnson
Jason Mraz “I’m Yours”
Katy Perry!
Lifehouse
Lisa Loeb “Stay”–an all-time fav!
Live
Maroon 5
Matchbox 20
Matt Nathanson “Come on Get Higher”
Natasha Bedingfield “Pocketful of Sunshine”
Nickleback
Oasis
O.A.R “Shattered”
Pink
Puddle of Mudd “We Don’t Have to Look Back Now”
R.E.M.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rob Thomas “Little Wonders”
Sara Bareilles!
Sarah Mclachan “U Want Me 2”
Staind
Sublime “What I Got”
The Spill Canvas “All Over You”
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Tom Cochrane “Life is a Highway”
U2!!!!
Uncle Kracker “Follow Me”
Wallflowers
Weezer

These songs were taken from the XM Channel Flight 26’s play-list.  They play more, but these are my faves.  I guess my taste is modern hits, but I love some 90’s thrown in there too.
All I know, is that I have to have my music!  🙂

Kindled My Heart….

I’m writing this morning with UNBELIEVABLY good news!  For the first time in roughly 20 mos. kidlet is sleeping through the night!  Last night was night #2.  This is the best news we could have gotten.  I was starting to age about a year a week. –Even attempting to rub what I thought was eyeliner off below my eye only to find it was a bag.  I can’t explain the horror felt.  There is a God!  He may even like me a little!
Also, yesterday a big item (as in expensive) got added to my Wish List, and put at the top of my “To Save Up For” list.  I’m not really expecting to get it, (unless I save for it) but I figure if kidlet can sleep through the night, hey, maybe miracles CAN happen. *shrug*
It’s Amazon’s “Kindle”.  I new OF it before, but only yesterday did I see all of the beautiful features it has.  In very simple terms, it’s an electronic book.  It has the capability (shipped as it is) to store 200 books in it’s existing memory.  If you add a memory card, that number jumps to 4,000 books.   It does not require a computer to use and through it’s own wireless network, there is instant access to 190,000 books.  The average cost per book download is anywhere from  $.99 to $2.00 (in comparison to anywhere to $15.00-$30.00 for the book in print.)  **New books and top sellers are $9.99 to download**  One can shop, search and buy straight from the device, and there’s a built in dictionary so in the middle of reading you can click on the word you don’t understand to see it’s definition.  I also realized another huge benefit to me would be the trashing of my bright book light to read at night which shines into kidlet’s room.
Anyway, this new fascination is Oprah’s fault–at least I can admit it.  It was through her show yesterday that I found out all of it’s wonderful features.  Of course the fact that I’m a reader and a gadget fanatic probably doesn’t help.–Ohhhh, THAT’S where Kidlet gets it!!!
Oh well…in the meantime, it’s back to the 3 paperbacks I have stacked next to my bed.

Autobiography

Here are the pics of everything I got done yesterday.  Again, the pendants didn’t come out as well as I hoped, but at least I know how to fix it before we do the next batch.  Live and learn!

Skipping Stones

Wow.  Today has been a great day.  Hubby essentially gave me the day off by taking care of kidlet today.  I got pictures dumped off the camera onto the computer and a couple edited.  I finished curing my jewelry pendants and although they didn’t come out like I had hoped, it was a test run, and a good one.  I got 3 canvases prepped and one collage done.  I haven’t gotten a chance to work on this many of “my” projects in at least over a year.  I’m feeling really well.  I’ll have pics here tomorrow, as my camera’s SD Card and my computer are not liking each other at the moment.
Speaking of tomorrow, as we were sitting down to supper tonight, the phone rings.  I thought, “So help me God, if this is another Call from the Republicans….” I look at our caller ID which read my work number.  I answer to hear my boss telling me that I don’t need to come in tomorrow because essentially she can’t afford to have me there tomorrow, but she will pay me for 3 hours of work I can do from home for the business website, and she finished the conversation letting me know that I would see her on Monday as usual.  Wow.  I’ve been working there 6 years, and this has never happened nor have I ever heard of it happening before.  I wonder if I need to start looking for a web-based side job…anyone hiring?
So, I guess this leaves me with time tomorrow.  I guess I’ll clean the house after I drop kidlet off at daycare and I’ll do yard work in the afternoon.  Or maybe I’ll just drink all day.  (Kidding!)
I’ve wrapped up Chpt. 4 of my Floral Design Course.  I’m at a 96% and am waiting for my next shipment to come in which will give me what I need for Chpts. 5-9.  For as many “irons in the fire” as I have right now, I feel more productive than ever.
In the meantime, it’s time for me to nod off….
