As most of my posts include something to do with my Cattleya Orchids, I thought I would post overall pictures of what the Addiction looks like.  Granted, they’re not spectacular, but it gives people a chance to either say, “That’s not as bad as I pictured,” or “Holy Hell!”

Hopefully this aides in my recovery, but then again, I’m not sure I WANT to recover.  That’s right.  I don’t want to be a quitter. :P

As reported I ordered this Orchid this past weekend.  Here’s a pic of what I ordered:

Lc. Koolau Seagull x Blc. Edist New Berry

Here is the description:
Seed Grown Plant

A fine hybrid between two proven parents, these are robust growing plants with art shade flowers, ranges from dark red to gorgeous sunset colors. 4 inch pot plants.

4 in pots?  Really?  Cause THIS is what came:

o

Holy Hugeness!!!  I just can’t remember the last time THIS happened.  I mean a customer receives something BIGGER than is what is advertised.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but Geezus!
Thanks http://www.alohaorchid.com!

Going Green Has Gone Ridiculous June 2, 2008

I’m checking my e-mail and I get “You can make a lovely hat out of previously-used aluminum foil.” above my Gmail in-box.  Are you kidding me?  That’s a recycling tip??  LOL!!!!!
If I smell like greasy lasagna now it’s the leftover cheese bits stuck in my cool new aluminum foil hat.  Who doesn’t want me now??? *snap*
On a different note, it was a hellofa day at work.  One of those, “I either need a drink or a raise” days.  One of those, “can you walk me through the greenhouse and hold my hand for an hour while I pick out plants” days, and DEFINITELY of those “I don’t care that you’re helping someone else, did you not get the memo, the world revolves around ME” days.  Thank God I don’t go back until Friday.  My frustration peaked today for the first time in a long time (at work that is.)
Amidst the chaos and looking for places to hide, but continually being unsuccessful, I had a brief moment of deja vu.  I read someplace that deja vu is actually a sign that you are exactly where your supposed to be in life.  Great. –I mean overall, I AM really happy with my life and job…it was just today that in this case, deja vu felt like a life sentence.
I caved and bought the Orchid ‘Rainbow’, mentioned in my previous post.  I think it should probably be the last as I’m running out of room.  That’s okay.  Now, to sit and watch them grow.  (And I wonder why my blog isn’t highly rated. LOL)
Lots of rain and thunderstorms expected this week.  That makes me happy.  I love storms (as long as I’m home.)
Off to go and unwind a bit and TRY to regain a little of my sanity….or what’s left.

They Deep Fry BACON Now????? May 29, 2008

I should be in bed. I’m not. And I’m sure I’ll feel it tomorrow.  I’m one of those people that needs lots of sleep.
Instead, I’m sitting here eating cereal watching a show on the Travel Channel about fried food.  Somehow, this is my life, and I’m great with it.  Did you know they batter and deep fry bacon now???  It’s wrong on so many levels….
I do have a new object of lust in my life.  Meet ‘Rainbow’

Blc. Lawless Zauberflote ‘Rainbow’

Gorgeous, isn’t she?  I think I may have to have her.  (Greedy aren’t I?)

This morning: Sorry, I got a fatal error last night and didn’t care to go back.   Instead, I went to bed, but still didn’t fall asleep till 11:00.  Damn you, Mt. Dew!
Kidlet woke up at 4:30a.m.  Although she didn’t stay awake, I woke up bargaining with God saying, “Don’t you think 4:30a.m. is a LITTLE excessive to have the sun start coming up?”  I quickly followed it with a chorus of “What do I know?  I’m just the little guy.” –So I don’t have to worry about getting hit by lightning today.
I fell asleep with a strong new idea in my head.  “What is love?”  I realized love is when you send your hubby to the store with “cups” and “dental floss” on the list and he comes back with cups in your favorite color and the exact brand and flavor of dental floss you use.  It’s the small stuff.  It’s letting me sleep in at least one day during the weekend.  It’s making supper most nights.  It’s him going garage saleing to a few sales I can’t make on a Friday morning because I have to work.  I went to sleep last night realizing that I’m pretty damn lucky.  I also went to sleep grateful that I realized this without something bad happening first to trigger it.  I don’t say it enough…thank you.
On a completely different note….we got a bag-less vacuum cleaner.  I’m not sure about it.  With pets in the house it’s a bit like spinning really dirty cotton candy.  It works great, I just don’t like touching the result.  Hmmm….
Okay, off to start my day.  My chores are mostly done at least.   Lots of rain expected tonight.  I love rain.

BLC Crowfield \'Mendenhall\'

BLC Crowfield ‘Mendenhall’

Welcome this new addition to my Cattleya Family.  It’s just a baby in a 2″ container, but with some TLC, I should get blooms in 3 years.  One color left to get and I’m done.   Really…..
I had a Twitter friend make a great Browser User Interface for me.  I’ve figured out how to tweak it and have made progress.  I’ll unvail it soon!  Thanks so much @linksmonkey!
Today has been really nice.  Hubby took kidlet with him this morning while he did some camp stuff and I unintentionally slept until 10:00a.m.  Whoops!  We had lunch and went to Elvis’s parents.  Grandma bought some great clothes for kidlet at some garage sales!  I’m so excited!  Kidlet is quickly growing out of her 18 mos. pants and PJ’s, so the 2T stuff is greatly appreciated.
Even though tomorrow is Memorial Day, Hubby has to work some.  It’s okay.  I have off work and Day Care is closed, so it will be kidlet and I.  The day should still be fun though.
That’s all for now.  Off to bed for me!

Are Wii sore? May 24, 2008

Yes.  Hell yes.  For those who don’t know, we got a Wii Thurs. night.  Wow.  I’m mean, it’s great!  It’s a blast, but where’s the warning saying that you will hurt the next morning?  Hello, Surgeon General-wanna get on this?
I have a Wii Fit and Wii Play on it’s way to me.  I’ve decided in lieu of these great workouts already, we’re cancelling our membership at the YMCA Tues.  We don’t get there anyway.  And now that I can look like an idiot in the privacy of my own home and feel the results the next day, I’m happy.  That will save us over $300 a year.  Yay!  Hubby likes the idea as well….for now.
Kidlet had a fever yesterday which broke after she woke up.  So, knowing that work was (hopefully) going to be busier with the Holiday Weekend, I bit my lip, got ready for work and took her to Day Care.  Day Care called about a 1/2 hour after I dropped her off.  Her fever was back.  My boss was not  happy, but I had to take care of her, so we enjoyed the day together at home.  Her fever broke for good mid morning.  She still has a cough and runny nose though…and an attitude this morning.  We’ll get through it though.
On the Orchid Front, I’m pursuing 2 more colors of Cattleyas and ending the buying run.  That will fill my available shelf space.  I’ll be happy.  I already obsess over them each night looking at their new growths.  Stop laughing. It’s not nice.
We watched “Juno” from Netfix last night.  LOVED IT!  5 stars!!!  It was great!
Guess that’s all for now.  We’re hosting a BBQ later tonight for a few staff members here at Camp helping my Hubby already.  That means Slush Punch tonight!  Yay!

This is it for now.  Hope you’re not in boredom-induced coma. :) This is just my life at the moment. :)

I’m Not an Addict! May 6, 2008

I was starting to slightly worry about the endless hours I’ve spent in the evenings winding-down by flipping through Orchid Auctions on eBay.   I didn’t want to say anything to Hubby, but I was wondering if I was developing a problem.  Thank God for the customers that come into the Floral Shop. :)
I got talking to a good customer of ours about her Orchids.  I knew she grew them for years.  What I *didn’t* know was that she has 70.  7-0!!  Without a Greenhouse!  She says she has no room on her kitchen table left, and she said that those 70 plants *didn’t* count her house plants.
Hearing this, I decided that I don’t have a problem.  And if I do have a problem, satisfying it by window-shopping eBay auctions is okay.  After this weekend, I’ll have a total of 6 and one is being given-away.  That’s okay.
That’s what I have to watch with myself.  When I find something new that I like, I immerse myself in it.  I consume myself in it.  It’s not a matter of getting one or two or just trying something.  I belly-flop into the deep end.  At least I recognize that about myself and thus I can window-shop eBay and be happy with 5 Orchids.  I grow wiser everyday. ;)
It is also an OUTSTANDING mail-week!  I have a new cell phone coming, we’re getting a new credit card (which is actually a good thing), a spring coat for kidlet is on it’s way and my orchids come Saturday.  In the meantime, we’re so caught up on our bills, our mailbox is quite empty.  I guess I should be grateful?…..or Sign up for more catalogs.–I love looking.  Okay.  Maybe I do have a problem…at least it’s a window-shopping problem, and that’s fairly inexpensive.

A Hellofa Week May 2, 2008

Wow.  What a week of a very sick child, spiking fevers, 4 different meds, whining, crying, sweating, baths.  Yeah, I’m tired.
Luckily, I can say this morning that I’m seeing glimpses of my usual girl.  No fevers this morning, there’s been a few smiles and even some happy squeals.  Thank God.
I can’t thank all my friends on Twitter (www.twitter.com) enough for all your kind words, thoughts and cares.  I really appreciate it!
As for me, I’m pretty wore out right now.   I wish I could say that this weekend will bring some relief, but it’s Staff Weekend out here at camp and Elvis has to work all weekend.  I may get a shot at some extra sleep Sunday afternoon.  I can hope.
My spirits are better today.  Less worried and no longer frantic.
Hubby took a look at our finances and things are looking great.  This year we’ll be able to REALLY start saving.   After this month, we’ll have one debt left to pay on (outside of our regular bills.)   I smell a savings account for a house around the corner. :)  Yay!
On the Orchid front, the ‘Hawaiian Passion’ has suffered.  I *think* it froze during shipping and I lost over half of the foliage.  (Stupid WI Weather.)  I contacted the seller about it and am waiting to hear from him what he thinks.  A girl can hope for a replacement plant, but I don’t know if that will happen.  In the meantime, a moment of silence please……Thank you.  LOL :)
Sorry this post is lacking in my usual wit and cleverness.  I’m lacking my usual sleep.  :)
